Like a Virgin...

Finally on a train to London, with a seat and our luggage not in our laps!  This part of the journey has been 'interesting', shall we say.  We dropped the car off after going around the block a couple of times looking for the carpark, and then mounted the platform to find a train to London.  Initially, last night, we had booked for the 11.30 to London but thought we'd chance our arm on the 10.30.  Well, that was fun!  Huge queue at platform 2 and then we were advised that the train would be leaving from platform 19.  So over we all hiked.  We waited for the train there.  Little did we know that we had stopped outside the First Class cars so we trecked further down the platform.  Train was packed.  Decided to not bother and head back to platform 2 for the 11.00.  Got on board that one after being told there was no reserved seating.  Had to sit with our luggage practically on our laps but was doable.  Then an announcement came over the train saying that there was reserved seating!  A couple came over and said they were their seats so we vacated.  Alison spoke the lady on the platform who had said there was no reserved seating.  She still said there was no reserved seating and we shouldn't have got off and that the announcer guy was, and I quote, 'a twat'.  She told us to head to platform 8 for our train so off we went again.  As we were heading over, the sign flicked over to platform 9.  They are both in the same place so it was all good.

The train was sitting at the platform so we got on.  As with the previous two trains, thee were tickets on the seats saying reserved.  We ignored those and sat down but there was still some general confusion on everyone's part.  Then an announcement.  No reserved seating!  The entire carriage let out a collective sigh of relief and we relaxed and people started chatting.

So.  On a Virgin train riding backwards into London.  Due in at 4 pm.  Apparently the chaos is due to weather and overhead lines issues.  Packed ourselves some lunch at the Hotel.  Have free wifi and enough battery in my book.  See you on the other side!
