I will resist adding the Fred Dagg lyrics!
This morning we woke up to this.

At last some snow! It promised a 62% chance of snow last night and it delivered. It was -6 when we headed out at about 11. The nice man on the desk last night had recommended that we head to the old city so we did that. We were also going to check out Copernicus and Chopin if we had the time. The first stop though was to the railway station to book our train to Krakow tomorrow. That was relatively painless and quick. We had jumped on a tram to the Central Station and then we jumped back on a tram to head two more stops closer to where we were heading before we alighted. This was so we could follow the map to the old city as we had been told the walk was quite pretty down the main street.

Once we got to where we were heading there seemed to be a large crowd and a lot of security. Hmmm...we wondered what was happening and then we checked the date. It was Epiphany and we had stumbled upon the Epiphany celebrations. There were crowns and singing and the Ride of the Valkyries blaring from speakers as children re-enacted stuff. There was also a parade with real camels! Alison looked it up once we got back to the hotel and it is the 5th year this parade has been held. It was really fun to watch especially as the snow was lightly falling too.
We needed a bit of a sit down so we followed a crowd into a church for a 1pm Mass. We stayed for the first half only as we were starving. On the way back to the hotel we found a little market type place that had stalls and we bought some bread type pancakey things that I had filled with cheese. They were warm and filling and portable.
Quite a quiet day overall as it appears that Warsaw closes for Epiphany! Oh well, maybe next time!
